In THE HORIZONT SO NAH, director Tim Trachte tells the true story of the novelist Jessica Koch, whose first novel 2016 had a sensational success story in a very short time. Ariane Schröder (Hin und Weg) adapted the novel into a sensitive script full of emotional depth. In the leading roles are the Berlinale 2018 European Shooting Star Luna Wedler ("Das Schönste Mädchen der Welt") and Jannik Schümann ("Die Mitte der Welt", "Charité") who play alongside Luise Befort ("Club der roten Bänder - Wie alles begann"), Victoria Mayer ("Hin und Weg"), Stephan Kampwirth ("Dark"), Denis Moschitto ("Aus dem Nichts") and Frederick Lau ("Victoria").

DEM HORIZONT SO NAH is the first collaboration of PANTALEON Films (Kristina Löbbert and Dan Maag) in co-production with STUDIOCANAL Film (Isabel Hund and Kalle Friz) and SevenPictures Film (Verena Schilling and Dr. Stefan Gärtner), supported by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern and the Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA). The year is 1956. During a visit to the cinema in West Berlin, high school pupils Theo (Leonard Scheicher) and Kurt (Tom Gramenz) see dramatic pictures of the Hungarian uprising in Budapest on the newsreel. Back at school in Stalinstadt, they spontaneously decide to hold a minute's silence in solidarity with the victims of the uprising during a lesson. But the gesture causes much bigger ripples than expected: while their headmaster (Florian Lukas) initially tries to put the whole thing down to the whim of youth, the schoolchildren become objects of the political machinations of the fledgling East Germany. The People's Education Minister (Burghart Klaußner) condemns the action as a clearly counterrevolutionary act and demands that the ringleader be named within a week. But the schoolchildren stick together, thus facing with a decision that will change their lives for ever...

THE SILENT REVOLUTION teils a deeply moving chapter from the diary of the Cold War, based on the personal experiences and the eponymous book by Dietrich Garstka - one of the 19 schoolchildren who turned an entire state apparatus against them with a simple humane gesture.

Mit Anfang 20 wohnt Marleen (Jella Haase) noch zuhause und jobbt lieber im kleinen Kino um die Ecke, als sich große Gedanken über die Zukunft zu machen. Als wäre das noch nicht genug, ist ihr Bruder Erik (Matthias Schweighöfer) auch noch der totale Überflieger: Als Entwicklungshelfer, Bergsteiger und Surflehrer ist er schon um die halbe Welt gereist – und jetzt schreibt er auch noch Bücher! Marleen ist das alles zu viel. Als dann ganz plötzlich ein tragisches Unglück über ihr Leben hineinbricht und sie in endlose Trauer stürzt, will Marleen nur noch weg. Sie schmeißt eine Zahnbürste und ein paar Klamotten in einen Rucksack – und beginnt eine Reise ins Ungewisse. Unterwegs trifft sie den Fotografen Ben (Marc Benjamin), die verrückte YouTuberin Zoë (Emma Drogunova) und gerät immer wieder in die irrsten Situationen. Je weiter sie kommt, umso mehr begreift sie: Dieser Roadtrip hat gar kein Ziel, sondern ist eine Reise zu sich selbst.
